The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and MED+ Urgent Care & Occupational Health Services, in partnership with the City of Montgomery, will be grilling out Thursday, September 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Neuilly- Plaisance Plaza in the heart of the Heritage District. Fall Brush & Limb Pick-Up begins September 16

The Montgomery Public Works Department will be providing a fall curbside bulk brush collection of brush and limbs. The fall program is scheduled to begin on September 16, 2013 and will be conducted over a 5-week period. Individual pick up weeks will be determined by the scheduled day of regular trash collection. Residents should place brush out at the curb by Monday morning of your collection week.

September 30 is deadline for MCLA Class

Monday, September 30 is the deadline for submitting applications for The Montgomery Citizens’ Leadership Academy (MCLA) 2014 class. Limited to just 25 participants per year, MCLA is designed to build connections within the community between citizens, businesses and their local government. The Academy Alumni is now more than 150 strong and looking for a few more residents to get involved.

Ruth Connolly: She Personifies “Caring”

Ruth Connolly exemplifies what a good citizen, neighbor, parent and friend is. Luisa Cerda met Ruth Connolly upon the death of her son, José, in late October 2010. When Ruth showed up at Luisa’s home in Montgomery and introduced herself, she handed her facial and toilet tissue. Ruth assured Luisa that these were primary necessities under the circumstances and that it was totally understandable to overlook the powder room given the enormity of what Luisa was going through. They laughed a bit when Ruth explained that Luisa was about to have many visitors from a caring community. It turned out she was the personification of that caring community.

International Reception Planned for October 13

Ainternational globell community members are invited to attend Montgomery's International Reception sponsored by the Sister Cities Commission. The Sister Cities Commission motto is “Bringing the World Together One Friendship at a Time” and this eagerly anticipated yearly event encourages the connection of all Montgomery residents’ one friendship at a time. Children and non-Montgomery residents are also encouraged to attend. The social event is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Terwilliger Lodge in Dulle Park (10530 Deerfield Road)

In an effort to help reduce identity theft, promote recycling and provide a way for residents to dispose of sensitive documents, the City of Montgomery’s Environmental Advisory Commission and Royal Document Destruction will be hosting a FREE community document shredding event on Saturday, October 19 at the Montgomery Public Works Facility at 7315 Cornell Road from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event is planned in conjunction with Connect Montgomery’s Making a Difference Day.

Interstate 71/275 ramp closures – July 29 through August 3

Ramps with two lanes will have one lane maintained. The ramps will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as follows:
  • Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30: Westbound I-275 to northbound I-71; double lane
  • Wednesday, July 31: Southbound I-71 to westbound I-275
  • Thursday, Aug. 1 northbound I-71 to eastbound I-275
  • Friday, Aug. 2: Westbound I-275 to southbound I-71
  • Saturday, Aug. 3: Southbound I-71 to eastbound I-275

Food Share to Conduct Second Pick-Up August 3

Montgomery Food Share will hold their second pick-up date on Saturday, August 3, starting at 10:00 a.m. This program collects donors who commit to donating a reusable-bag full of non-perishable food the first Saturday of even-numbered months. These food items are picked up by volunteers and delivered to Freestore Foodbank.
